How adoption works
Adopting is simple and usually takes less than an hour once you have found the right match.
The steps
- Browse the animals and use the filters to find a fit. Not sure? Take the matching quiz.
- Meet them. Plan a visit and tell us who you would like to meet. Animals cannot be held through online or email requests, so visit as soon as you can.
- Apply on the animal's page, or at the shelter with an adoption counselor. Your saved details are filled in for you.
- Finalize. An adoption counselor reviews your answers, takes the fee, and you sign the adoption contract and take home your adoption packet.
Animals living in foster homes: send an adoption inquiry from their page. The foster family will contact you within three days to arrange a meeting.
What to bring
- Be at least 18 years old
- Bring a government-issued photo ID
- Complete a short questionnaire
- Meet with an adoption counselor
If you rent, bring your landlord's contact details or lease terms about pets.
